Period Delay Treatments: What to Expect?

Straightforward answers to frequently asked questions.

How does Norethisterone work?

Norethisterone tablets are used to treat various menstrual cycle issues and commonly used to delay periods. The active ingredient is Norethisterone, a synthetic version of progesterone.

Rather than allowing progesterone levels to fall as they normally would before your period, it mimics the effects of female hormones in the body by keeping progesterone levels up, sustaining the uterus lining.

This in turn, inhibits ovulation, delaying the uterus from shedding its lining and thus preventing your period.

How soon will I get my period?

Your period should come within 2-3 days after completing your course of Norethisterone.

Will my period stop forever?

After ceasing the tablets, it may take a few days for your body to adjust to the changes in hormone levels. If you don’t get your period within a week after completing the course, take a pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy or seek advice from your GP.
