What is Curanail / Loceryl?

Curanail, or Loceryl is an antifungal nail lacquer used specifically to treat fungal infections in nails.

It contains the active ingredient amorolfine hydrochloride which disrupts the growth of a large variety of fungi, combatting the infection.

The 3ml size is branded as Curanail, whilst the 5ml size is branded as Loceryl, but they are both the same 5% Amorolfine formula produced by dermatology specialists Galderma.

How should I use it?

• The affected nail should be filed down as much as possible and cleaned with a swab to remove any dirt.
• Dip the applicator into the bottle of Curanail or Loceryl nail lacquer, making sure not to wipe the lacquer off on the edge of the bottle before use.
• Apply the gel evenly on the entire affected nail with the provided applicator, once a week.
• Allow the gel to dry for approximately 3 minutes before cleaning the applicator with the swab used prior to clean the nails.

Be careful to not use the same nail file for both your infected and healthy nails, and avoid using fake or acryllic nails and nail varnish during the treatment. When repeating the application process, remove the old lacquer and any nail varnish, and file the nail again if needed.

How long does it take to work?

You should use this medication continuously and consistently until the infection clears up and healthy nails have grown back. You should see positive results after consistent and continuous use around 6 months for fingernails and 9 to 12 months for toenails.

After every three months of treatment, continue the treatment if the infection is improving, and talk to your doctor if the infection is the same or has worsened.

Like all medicines, some people may experience side effects as a result of using Amorolfine, although these are rare.

Rare side effects include:

• Nail damage
• Nail discolouration,
• Fragile or brittle nails

In very rare circumstances, you may experience a skin burning sensation.
