What is Viagra?

Viagra is a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED), also known as impotence.

How does it work?

Viagra or sildenafil citrate is used to help men achieve and maintain an erection during sex. Viagra relaxes your muscles and increases the blood flow to the penis, helping you maintain an erection. Viagra is not an aphrodisiac, thus it only works if the patient is sexually stimulated.

Who is Viagra for?

Viagra is a popular treatment for men who experience ED.

When do I take Viagra?

The medication should be taken with a glass of water about an hour before you plan to have sex.

How often can I take Viagra?

You should only take one tablet of any strength within a 24-hour period. If you have sex more than twice a week, you might find taking Tadalafil (Cialis) daily more effective. It’s a low dosage tablet that can taken once a day, meaning you are more flexible when planning for sexual intercourse.

Please consult with your GP for the medication that is most suitable for you.

How long does Viagra take to work?

It is recommended that you take Viagra an hour before sexual activity. While the medication will last in the body for up to four hours, this does not mean you will have an erection that lasts this long.

For the best results, you should take a Viagra tablet on an empty stomach. It is advised to avoid consuming alcohol when taking Viagra. The maximum dose is 1 tablet within a 24 hour period, regardless of dosage.

How long does Viagra last?

Viagra will remain in the body for 4 hours, but this doesn’t mean your erection will last this long. This is the timeframe in which it is likely to be most effective. If you have an erection which lasts for more than 4 hours, please contact a doctor immediately.

Can I take Viagra and drink alcohol?

While drinking within the limits is allowed (2-3 units per day) when taking Viagra, it is advised to avoid drinking alcohol as it reduces the effectiveness of Viagra and increases the potential of side effects.

Can I take Viagra with food?

The effect of Viagra will take longer when you eat a big meal as this delays the absorption of the medication. It is advised to take it on an empty stomach.

Which Viagra dosage should I take?

Viagra is available in three different dosage levels, 25mg, 50mg and 100mg.

25mg

This is the lowest dosage for Viagra. It is normally taken when the patient who has tried the 50mg at least four times still experiences adverse side effects. It can also be recommended by a doctor if a patient is taking other medication alongside Viagra. These medications can include, but are not limited to: Alpha Blockers, HIV Treatment or blood regulating medication.

Please consult with your GP for the suitable dosage.

50mg

This is the most common dosage for Viagra and the recommended strength for men using it for the first time. Most men will find that this dosage enhance their sexual experience and is sufficient enough to treat their ED.

It is advised to consult with your GP for the most suitable dosage.

100mg

This is the highest dosage for Viagra. 100mg tablets are only used if the 50mg tablets have been used at least four times without any adverse side effects, but the erection is still not strong enough for penetration. You should not consume more than one 100mg Viagra tablet in a 24 hour period.

It is advised to consult with your GP for the most suitable dosage.

Does the dosage depend on my age?

The dosage is based on your health, whether any other medications are taken and the effectiveness of the treatment.

What if I need to change dosage?

You should always consult with your GP or pharmacist for your recommended dosage or if you feel like you need to change dosage.

Can you overdose on Viagra?

If you exceed the recommended dosage, please seek help from your local emergency department immediately.

What is the difference between Viagra and Sildenafil?

Sildenafil is a more affordable medication that is medically equivalent as Viagra that has the same range of strength, dosage and efficacy.

What is the difference: Viagra, Viagra Connect and Kamagra?

Viagra, Kamagra, and Viagra Connect are all brands of medication which contain the same active ingredient, sildenafil citrate. Kamagra is not licensed for use within the UK, and therefore cannot be legally sold here.

Viagra is a brand of sildenafil citrate manufactured by Pfizer, and is licenced and legal for use within the UK. Viagra Connect is only sold in the standard dose of 50mg, allowing it to be sold in pharmacies without a prescription.

We also stock Sildenafil, which is the unbranded version of the medicine, making it available on the market at a significantly lower price.

What is the difference between Viagra and Cialis?

Both medications are used to treat men with ED by increasing the blood flow to the penis, assisting in producing and maintaining an erection. While both are very similar, the response to the medication will vary for each person. We offer Cialis that has a daily version designed to be taken every day at a consistent low dosage which is useful for men who prefer more flexibility.

Can Viagra help you last longer in bed?

Viagra’s main purpose is to help men who suffer from ED. It can also help increase confidence and enhance the sexual experience. While some studies have suggested this, there is not enough evidence to support that Viagra is a suitable treatment for premature ejaculation.

Can I combine Viagra with other Erectile Dysfunction medications?

It is not recommended to take more than one ED medication at a time.

What if Viagra doesn’t work for me?

Like with any other medication, erectile dysfunction (ED) medications may not work for everyone that takes them. We recommend taking the medication exactly as prescribed, eating healthy, reducing alcohol and cigarette intake, and maintaining adequate exercise.

We also recommend consulting with your GP for the most suitable treatment for you to take.

How can I buy Viagra online?

Viagra (sildenafil) is only available with a valid prescription in the UK.

Can women use Viagra?

No. Research has concluded that it might not be safe for women to use because of the long term and side effects it may have on the female body. However, please survey the ‘female Viagra’ alternatives called Flibanserin or Addyi. The side effects however, include fainting, vomiting, dizziness and low blood pressure.

Also, Addyi is not widely available in the UK.

Can I take Nitrates and Alpha Blocker medications with Viagra?

It is not advisable to take Viagra if you are on either Nitrates or Alpha Blocker medication. As Viagra lowers blood pressure, combined with Nitrates can be dangerous as it might induce a heart attack. Therefore, it is advised to not take Viagra if you are taking any nitrate medication.

Alpha Blockers: Caution is advised to those wanting to take Viagra when taking an alpha-blocker medication as the combination of both can cause a drastic drop in your blood pressure.

It is best to consult with your doctor about whether you are suitable for Viagra.
